His research interests are the French and German nouvelle of the XIX century and post-French New Wave cinema. As an undergraduate, Omar studied French and Spanish at the University of Texas at Arlington, before completing his Masters degree in Modern Languages at the same institution in 2012. Omar began a PhD in French in 2013.
